3d print

Description

This micro-credential denotes a student who has become proficient in understanding basic 3D design and using 3D printing in digital fabrication.

Instructions: To earn a micro-credential, take pictures or video of each criterion to show as evidence of your mastery.  When sending in your evidence be sure to organize your evidence and add captions or descriptors to explain what is happening.  Please do not send in multiple jpegs without organizing them in Slides, Docs, etc.

    Criteria

    • Use Tinkercad or any other 3D design software to manipulate a 3D design for optimal printing by choosing 1 of the following:
      • Split an existing .stl file into multiple pieces for optimal printing (creating the least scaffolding).
      • Design your own 3D object.  Show how to manipulate the object’s orientation for optimal printing (creating the least scaffolding).
    • Download .stl from design software.
    • Using slicer software, generate gcode (with correct printer & filament setting) from a .stl file
    • Explain differences in print quality settings
    • Move .stl file to the 3D printer
    • Demonstrate ability to use the printer's LCD menu tree (preheat, print from SD)
    • Explain the printer's LCD monitor information during printing (actual/goal temps, time estimates, completion %)
    • Explain differences in printer settings for PLA/ABS filaments
    • Show the final printed object
